Bitch Queens
Party Hard(ly)
Party Hard or Party hardly? More like work hard or work harder? Whereas only rock'n'roll-clich-lovers find the first question of interest, the second is the prime reason and rhyme for the survival of a DIY-Band like the Bitch Queens. There hardly ever was a gang of brothers who have so relentlessly plowed the murky underground rock'n'roll swamp like these four gentlemen from Basel. And as the live circuit had gone dead these last few years they spent alot of time in their studio, writing and recording new songs and now are ready to give their people a treat. The last album ,Custom Dystopia" is not even a year old and now hot on it's heels the 5 track EP ,Party Hard(ly)", a more leaner but surprisingly eclectic offering, finds the light of day. The opening and titel track ,Party Hard(ly)" is a cocktail of everything that makes Bitch Queens great - the hookline will drill itself into your skull and make babies with your endorphins, the lyrics, at the same time simple and profound, will make you sing along in a silly voice and the exquisit Death-Punk Riff will get you into trouble with your neighbours. That's right, turn it up LOUD. ,Stay Here Forever" and ,Be No Evil" are sung by drummer Harry Darling, the bands not so secret weapon on two legs, and surprises with delicious pop appeal and a surprisingly heavy kick in the nether regions. "Recycled Youth" and "These Secrets" on the other hand are classic Punkrock songs to round of this mature but at the same time gloriously juvenile and reckless record. It is true the listener will be surprised by the versatility and eclecticism of the songs on offer but if they accept the challenge, the reward will be a very fulfilling and very rock'n'roll one indeed.
