Angelo Schiavi Reunion Band Meets Franco Piana & Marco Tiso
Three Storytellers
Perhaps with good reason, the big band is considered by many to be the fifth essence of jazz, since it contains all its fundamental elements: writing, arrangements, improvisation, collective sense, and soloist prowess. Unfortunately, these days it is increasingly difficult to hear a large orchestra either live or on record. It is therefore with the greatest interest to present this album. In the repertoire are six pieces each written by Franco Piana, Marco Tiso and Schiavi himself. The big band moves organically, revealing good harmony between the various sections. Thus the balance is always present and the play on dynamics is not lacking either. The solo interventions are also excellent. Everything was completed by the excellent direction of Angelo Schiavi and the support of an absolutely impeccable rhythm section in which once again stands out the limpid talent of Federica Michisanti, a jazz musician to whom yours truly predicted a bright future several years ago.
