18th Parallel, The -meets Roberto Sanchez-
Dub Avalanche, Vol. 1
Dub Avalanche Vol. 1, the opening chapter of a new dub experiment led by Swiss collective The 18th Parallel. In the tradition of Jamaican pioneers like King Tubby, Scientist, Prince Jammy, or Lee "Scratch" Perry, the band revisits ten scorching riddims from the label's vault, entrusting them to Spanish sound engineer Roberto Sánchez. Known for his inventive approach, Sánchez delivers explosive deconstructions that merge deep roots spirit with modern dub sensibilities. The instrumentals, performed with finesse by The 18th Parallel, are punctuated by fleeting voices of reggae greats such as The Viceroys, Lone Ranger, Cornell Campbell, and Dennis Walks, echoing into immersive soundscapes. Completing the vision, Mexican artist Melissa Santamaría illustrates a striking retro-futuristic cover, perfectly embodying the concept of a "dub avalanche." Already, this first volume is shaping up as a musthave for every lover of uncompromising reggae and dub.
