A ninth album in 2021? Thats their way of linking round numbers and symbolic dates: Parla patois, their first album, came out in 1992 but Massilia Sound System have always resisted the temptation of making anniversary albums or celebrating the passing decades. Instead "Pour les conos, les pbrons et les cagants, cest le drame" ("For the schmucks, imbeciles, and arseholes, thats a problem") as they say in the first song here, A cavalòt (Back in the saddle). Yes, combative but grinning, committed but joking, thats who they are. We dont often have an opportunity to cross paths with bands like Massilia Sound System, who know how to use their intelligence and speak from the heart, who call up the dreams that bring people together and the reality that binds them, whose music makes feet dance and hands create.
