Cape Town Effects

Cape Town Effects

Cape Town Effects is a crazy project, that results from the relationship initiated 10 years ago between Jarring Effects and South African artists. Multifaceted in nature, the project, spoken in Afrikaans, English and Xhosa, brings together two labels (Pioneer Unit & Jarring Effects), three beatmakers (Jaak, Konfab, El Nino), a violinist Tebz (ben sharpas sister), 3 producers Dplanet (from Pure Solid), Big Space and Led Piperz, a VJ (Sp0Oky from Pure Sold) and a film director; the project oscillates between electro and hip-hop. It will be available for live performances, as a photo exhibit, a documentary and released on record. Ben Sharpa brings is style on 3 titles, he is considered by those in the know to be one of the African Continent's most accomplished and gifted lyricis Jaak is passionate about the Afrikaans language, and is one of a growing number helping to give the language a cooler image through rap, and to reclaim it for the many black and mixed heritage South Africans for whom it is a mother tongue. KONFABs style of rhyme remains grounded and devoid of any influence from the materialistic and flashy schools of thought so prevalent in mainstream hip-hop today. He projects the anti-establishment, presently disadvantaged, previously dissed and damaged, seriously pissed-off with anger mismanaged, half-foreign, urbanised darkie that he is. El Nino is adamant that the way forward for South African groups is to focus on their own stories. Hip-hop has also managed to spawn several active South African subgenres, including spaza and motswako (the country's biggest star, HHP, is a motswako rapper), and El Nino feels that is a good thing for the music.
