2 - DEAN, NORA - PEACE BEGINS WITHIN - (7")
HARLEM SHUFFLE

This is a licensed reissue of the early Reggae masterpiece "NORA DEAN "PEACE BEGINS WITHIN" initially published in 1971 and never reprinted since...Although one of the greatest Reggae female vocalists, little is known about Nora Dean. She recorded solo and also as a member of The Soulettes, The Ebony Sisters and The Soul Sisters. Nora Dean's most known song "Barbwire" was a number one hit in 1969. Her songs today are considered great classics among early Reggae fans. As both sides of this single shows, Nora Dean was without doubt one of the greatest Jamaican voices ever. "Peace begins within" is a beautiful uptempo early Reggae masterpiece where Nora's vocal ability really shows. It is an unusual song depicting in a few words the hard reality of life, on an uplifting early Reggae beat. Brilliant track! The original single is one of the most sought after Reggae 7" vinyl ever with a price tag of about 900 dollars a piece if you can ever find one... We wanted to do something very special with this reissue so we opted for the 1969's "Ay Ay Ay Ay" on the B side."Ay Ay Ay Ay" is a very unique track, a psychedelic Jamaican song - not quite Reggae - wonderfully weird, where Nora sings, moans, laughs, shrieks, whistles, delivering one of her most compelling vocal performance on a background of tribal drums and hypnoctic guitar. Awesome!

8 - OTHER HALF, THE - MR. PHARMACIST - (7")
HARLEM SHUFFLE

This is a licensed reissue on 7" vinyl of the killer garage single by the Other Half published by GNP Crescendo in 1966 and never reprinted since. The Other Half was a 5 pieces band that included the guitar wizard Randy Holden who went on to join Blue Cheer later on. TOH members were originaly from L.A., then moved to San Francisco in the mid sixties. The Other Half' sound was a brutal but fairly advanced rock interpretation of the R&B performed by British bands such as The Rolling Stones & Them. Although less known, they were really on par with American bands such as Music Machine, the Sonics and the Wailers. Mr Pharmacist is their best known and much sought after single. It was covered by The Fall with great success in the 80's. It is an uptempo, mean, hard, relentless white R&B number showcasing a sophisticated combination of wild guitars, outstanding drums and powerful vocals. And unbelievable lyrics to match... On the flip side "I've Come So Far" is a slower number backed with some awesome piano (reminiscing of the Seeds) and great vocals to boot. Irresistible. The release is on a high quality 42 grams 7" vinyl 45 RPM Mono as per the original.
